In the spring of 2008, I was part of a UKTI trade mission to Copenhagen, standing alongside business leaders like Digby, Lord Jones of Birmingham. But by the following year, life took an unexpected turn. I found myself facing a personal crisis — out of work, soon to be a parent, and navigating the challenges of PTSD.
In that moment of rebuilding, I turned instinctively to nature, to gardens, green spaces, and the outdoors. It wasn’t just therapy; it was a return to something deeply rooted in my family, stretching back four generations. That connection to the land, to the seasons, to natural rhythms — it became the foundation of my recovery.
And it’s now the heart of our business.
We believe what’s essential personally is also essential locally, and globally. Everyone deserves the chance to decompress, to recharge, and to reconnect with nature in a caring, sustainable way. That belief continues to guide everything we do.
As the business grew, so did our mission. We’ve been proud to offer apprenticeships, nurture the next generation of green professionals, and create outdoor spaces that honour and support the natural world.
One of our proudest moments was receiving an RHS Silver Gilt Award for a planting design that brought peace and biodiversity to an industrial area in Sheffield. But the quiet victories mean just as much — like a suburban garden that began with a single native wild orchid and, over nearly a decade, became a thriving meadow full of bees, ants, voles, and a whole world of wildlife.
This work isn’t just about gardening, it’s about creating spaces that sustain us, physically and emotionally. It’s about supporting local businesses, honouring our farming communities, and promoting wellbeing in the most grounded, real way possible.
As Michaela Strachan once said: -
“Nature isn’t just about the facts. Appreciating wildlife is about sitting, watching, listening, and immersing yourself in the experience.”
That’s what we strive to offer through our work — spaces where people can feel that connection, find a moment of stillness, and rediscover the wonder of the natural world.
